Students from Taiwan are finding Xiamen in East China more and more appealing not only for its picturesque landscapes, but also as a great place for study trips.

Study trips offered by the coastal city have attracted over 5,200 Taiwan teenagers and their parents in the last three years. The city's Jimei District has also grown into a study trip base for Taiwan students. Its 20,000-square-meter headquarters, completed on December 3, 2018, can accommodate over 500 students at once.

Wu Tangji, Director of Jimei's Bureau of Culture, Sports, Radio, Television, Publication and Tourism, said Jimei promoted exchange between students from both sides of the Straits in a number of ways.

"Jimei's unique natural, historical, cultural and geographical conditions are well-suited for study trips," Wu said.

Chen Pei-i, a mother from Taiwan, has attended study trips in Jimei with her child three times now. She spoke highly of the close interaction between Taiwan and Chinese mainland students.

"Students from across the Straits were able to learn and make new friends in an easy and enjoyable climate," Chen said.

Jimei has organized 29 study trips with 122 distinctive lessons to satisfy the increasing demand from Taiwan students.

The district's efforts have paid off, with more than 15,000 Taiwan teenagers and their parents having taken part in local study trips this year.
